What is the IRCTC 60-day rule?+
Since 1 November 2024, IRCTC opens reservations 60 days before the date of journey (excluding the journey date itself) at 8:00 AM IST. Before this, the window was 120 days.
What about Tatkal?+
Tatkal opens one day before the journey from the train's origin station. AC classes open at 10:00 IST, non-AC (Sleeper) at 11:00 IST.
I board at an intermediate station — does the date change?+
Yes. IRCTC counts both the 60-day window and Tatkal from the train's departure at its ORIGIN station, not your boarding date. On a long-distance train you board mid-route, so booking opens earlier than '1 day before you board'. Switch to 'By train no.' mode, enter your train and boarding station, and we compute the correct origin-anchored date for you.
Do I need an Aadhaar-verified IRCTC account to book on opening day?+
Effectively yes, for the prime window. Since 12 January 2026, on a train's booking-opening day only Aadhaar-authenticated IRCTC accounts can book reserved tickets online from 8:00 AM to midnight. Non-verified accounts must wait until the next day (or a counter) — by which time popular trains are gone. There's no extra charge or quota; the advantage is purely timing. Verify your account in advance via IRCTC → My Account → Authenticate User.
Does the 60-day rule apply to every train?+
Most trains follow the 60-day ARP. A few short-distance trains and special services have a shorter window. 'By date' mode assumes 60 days; use 'By train no.' mode for the most accurate, train-specific date.
Is this an official IRCTC site?+
No. irctcwhen is an independent tool. We don't book tickets — we just help you not miss the moment they open. Book at irctc.co.in.
